“Hello everyone, hello everyone…how are you today?”
I wonder if you sang that in your head? I certainly did! ☺ It’s the way we begin each Musitots session so I thought it only fitting to use it to introduce the first ever Musitots blog post.
Welcome along!
So why do we start each session with this same song? There are lots of reasons! It’s no secret of course that repetition is an important factor in the way children learn. We all know that familiarity creates a sense of comfort and belonging and one of my primary aims for Musitots is that everyone feels relaxed during the sessions – I hope that you consider them to be personal, friendly and welcoming to adults and children alike.
Perhaps the main reason for this repetition is summed up by a quotation I came across a few years a go:
This comes from the findings of a project carried out by the University of Exeter in 2004 – “Music One2One.” I think it sums up exactly why we start each session with the hello song and end it with the goodbye song, fitting in the names of each child attending as we sing. When children (no matter how young) feel appreciated and valued they will feel calm and at ease, building positive relationships with those around them. With these conditions a platform for learning is established. And most importantly, the children will relax into the sessions and have no end of fun!
I’m quite excited about this shiny new website and the new ways to communicate with you all. Thank you for all your support as always, and thank you for dropping by!
